How do u guys design your lakes and water falls to give it a realistic look?

What do you mean by design?

Lakes, ponds, and such are in low lying areas, usually with the terrain sloping somewhat gently into them. There are exceptions, rocky drop offs and such. But they best thing to do is find a photograph of what you are trying to portray, and study it. See how the elements fit together.
